A friend just returned from his trip to the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in the Philippines. Â I had never heard of this before he told me he was going to it. Â The photo above is of the Eucharistic procession from the Cebu Capitol building to Plaza Independencia. Â This took place on the 5th day of the Congress. Â I had to look at a video of if to figure out that the streaks of light were from the candles that everyone was carrying. Â Â Reports are that 2 million people participated in this procession that stretched 5 k or about 3.1 miles!!
Below is the video I found of the Eucharistic procession. Â It is truly AMAZING to see these 2 million Catholics processing along, adoring Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Â It is such a beautiful sight and sign of hope. Â There are many more videos you can look up, one showing the end of the procession where the priest, wearing the humeral veil, lifts up the huge monstrance so the crowd may be blessed by Jesus Christ. Â Then another where they are reciting the Divine Praises in reparation for blasphemy!
When we find, so often, in our in-boxes, newsfeed, on the television, in the newspaper, etc. messages of persecution and dread, I found great comfort and joy in seeing this. Â Knowing that 2 million people gathered in such a beautiful, peaceful way following the Way, the Truth and the Light around the city. Â This video is breathtaking. Â I can’t imagine what was like to actually be there. Â What a wonderful thing!!
